  Chateau Tumbleweed is a collaboration of four friends that created one of Clarkdale’s first commercial wineries and tasting rooms.

We’re serious about our wines, but don’t take ourselves too seriously. We aim to rub some of this spirit off onto those we encounter in the hope that wine will one day be generally less stuffy and a lot more fun. We believe in the high-elevation growing regions of the Southwest and think wine has something to teach us if we’re willing to listen.

 Four 8 Wineworks, named after the 48th State, Arizona, was founded in January of 1912 following a confidential cloak-and-dagger exchange between extraterrestrial visitors seeking asylum and state politicians seeking statehood for Arizona.

Before their presence was discovered, these alien refugees had quietly and successfully introduced Sentient Organic Matter aka Vitis Vinifera aka Grape Vines, to the high elevation regions of what is now known as Arizona. But local politicians seeking statehood were courting favor from influential prohibitionists at the federal level. The prospect of a thriving wine industry ran contrary to their mission. After months of deliberation in the now historic mining town of Jerome, AZ, both parties agreed upon the following; The E.T.s would be granted asylum in the Verde Valley in exchange for the use of their Neuralyzer technology. (aka Memory Replacement) Although Vinifera was best suited for AZ’s high elevation regions, the entire Southwest would be Neuralyzed into believing California was a better growing option and that the first plantings had been established there in the late 1700’s. Ludicrous, yes. But as a deep dive into forensic accounting will show, Arizona’s primary source of revenue prior to cotton was the sale of Vinifera to California’s early wine regions. Ground zero for this clandestine exchange was and continues to be Four 8 Wineworks.

 Javelina Leap is a family operated, premium boutique winery with award winning wines. Our winery is in northern Arizona’s Verde Valley only minutes away from Sedona in the small historic valley of Page Springs.

When you visit us, you will be sampling wines at a fully functional vineyard and winery. Our harvested Arizona grapes are picked, de-stemmed, fermented, pressed, aged, bottled and labeled all right here at the winery which is equipped with a 100 barrel capacity cellar currently full of aging Arizona wine. We also offer tours of our winemaking facility and barrel room.

Elevation, volcanic soil, hot days and cool nights make Arizona a perfect environment for grape growing. Arizona, California, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Bordeaux France are all between 34 and 45 degrees latitude north of the Equator placing Arizona among some of the most famous wine destinations in the world.

The Southwest Wine Center at Yavapai College is a premier wine industry and community resource, offering a comprehensive hands-on education from vineyard-to-bottle with programs in enology, viticulture and business/entrepreneurship through its estate vineyard, teaching winery, fully-operational tasting room and region-wide wine industry research epicenter.

Student crafted wines are available for sampling. Tours of the winery are also conducted. Tasting flights of the wines are available for a $10 sampling fee.

We have two beautiful wine tasting / wine store locations, the historic Kelly House in Jerome, overlooking Sedona and the Verde Valley, and beautiful Tlaquepaque arts village in Sedona. Vino Zona is the perfect place to try Arizona wine and soak in a bit of Verde Valley history. 

We live here and are wine geeks so we can offer as little or as much info as you would like about the area and the wines.
